Hyderabad, Aug.29 (Hydnow): Congress MP A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was looting public money by appointing unqualified Prabhakar Rao as CMD of Telangana GENCO instead of appointing qualified IAS officers as its head.

Speaking to mediapersons, Revanth Reddy alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao used the sentiment and pocketed money. He also alleged that the State suffered huge loss due to long lasting power purchase agreement with the Chhattisgarh government.

Addressing mediapersons here today, Revanth Reddy said then Secretary of Electricity department Arvind Kumar was transferred from his post as he had written a letter highlighting the loopholes in the power purchase agreements of the State government. Alleging that Adani company was behind the purchase of 1000 MW from Chattisgarh State, he said Adani supplies coal to Marva thermal power plant. He said Rs 1,200-crore burden was put on the people to benefit the Adani company. He said the State would have got power at much cheaper price if it had participated in an open bidding process.

He also alleged that Prabhakhar Rao was making false statement that the State government was procuring power at the rate of Rs.3.90 per unit. He also alleged that Rao was extending total support to the Chief Minister in looting public money. He alleged that the loot was being made in the name of purchase of power in emergency conditions by forming syndicate of buyers and sellers. He said the State had incurred a loss of Rs 957 crore during 2016-17 year due to improper usage of power.

He also alleged that the State government was not allotting land to NTPC, which was promising to sell 4000 MW at cheap rate to the State. Targeting BJP leaders Laxman and Kishan reddy, Revanth asked them whether they are ready to hold a detailed inquiry into the irregularities committed in the purchase of power by the State government on the basis of a complaint by the Congress leaders. He made it clear that he was ready to face any punishment if his allegations proved wrong and advised the TRS and BJP leaders to stop their dramas in public. (Hydnow)
