Hyderabad, Aug.29 (Hydnow): Telangana Forest & Environment Minister A Indrakaran Reddy today asked the Centre to spread greenery and afforestation in the State.

He participated in a national program on forests and environment in New Delhi presided over by Union forest minister Prakash Jawadekar. Jawadekar asked the States’ ministers of forests to ensure expansion of the greenery to check pollution and attract more rains and push for farm production.

Later Indrakaran Reddy told media persons in Delhi that they have discussed on green protection and expansion of forests, riparian states, use of Campa funds and others. The meeting focused on to expand twice forest area and cover in four years.

The Centre gave Rs 3110 cr to Telangana after it gave funds towards land acquisition for several companies and projects. These funds will be used to expansion of forest in our state of Telangana he said.

Indrakaran Reddy informed that about 230 crore saplings were planted as part of continuous Haritha Haram program across the State.

As much as 50 per cent of the plants are grown up, he said and hoped better expansion of greenery in the days to come. As per new Panchayat Raj Act, the duty of protecting the saplings planted under Haritha Haram were given to the village panchayats, he said. He also warned that the government will not spare the employees or staff, who neglect green expansion program. (Hydnow)
