New Delhi: The Central government has formed a high-level panel, led by former President Ram Nath Kovind, to study the ‘one nation, one election‘ proposal, which aims to synchronize Lok Sabha and state Assembly polls across India.

This announcement comes ahead of a special parliamentary session scheduled from September 18 to 22, sparking speculation about the proposal’s discussion during the session.

The ‘one nation, one election‘ concept, previously supported by the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeks to reinstate simultaneous elections, a practice followed until 1967 but interrupted due to premature dissolutions of some state Assemblies and the Lok Sabha.
