Ahead of the IPL 2024 season, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is reportedly in search of a new head coach. In the previous season (IPL 2023), they appointed former West Indies captain Brian Lara as their head coach.
Despite assembling a strong squad during the 2023 auction, the team failed to perform up to expectations under his leadership. With only four wins from 14 matches, SRH finished at the bottom of the standings and missed the playoffs.
“While the franchise and Lara have not officially addressed the issue, the word is that the cricket legend may be parting ways with the Hyderabad side due to the franchise’s dissatisfaction with his coaching style,” Cricbuzz reported.
The possibility of the Sunrisers Hyderabad appointing one of their former players as the head coach for the IPL 2024 season should not come as a shock. In 2022, the team had already brought on board their former player Dale Steyn as a fast-bowling coach. Hence, it would not be unexpected for them to consider another former player to take up the head coach role in the upcoming season.
Sunrisers Hyderabad might contemplate the idea of adding a former world champion like Yuvraj Singh to their backroom staff as the head coach. Yuvraj had a successful stint with SRH, winning his first IPL trophy with them in 2016.
While he retired from the league in 2019, he has remained involved in the sport by mentoring the New York Strikers in the Abu Dhabi T10 League. Impressive results followed as the Strikers qualified for the final in their debut season. Given his experience and achievements, Yuvraj could be a valuable addition to SRH as a potential head coach.
