Hyderabad, Aug.29 (Hydnow): A delegation of TRS leaders led by Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy today called on Union surface transport and national highways minister Nitin Gadkari to grant funds to expand State highways into national highways. They said so far 1388-km roads were developed into national highways in the State as against 3155-km and sought completion of the rest of 1767 km.
The Speaker said, “Identify the roads and land for the same and take up the works of construction of national highways. The State government will spend 50 per cent of funds for land acquisition and offer forest lands for the national highways in the State. The TRS leaders urged Gadkari to release funds required for the purpose and ensure that the national highways area in Telangana increased to push growth and transportation.
Srinivas Reddy appealed to the Centre through a memorandum to ensure that the highways sanctioned are given timely funds. He also said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao wrote letters to the Centre in this regard. “KCR is firm to develop the highways in coordination with the Centre. The State government will extend all support in this regard”, he added.
