Chennai/Hyderabad, May 15 (Hydnow): Adulterated drugs are messing with people’s lives. Although there is a ban on this, some are selling it freely with the help of officials. 13 people died in different districts of Tamil Nadu on a single day after drinking adulterated drugs.
According to the police, the adulterated drug was sold in Marakkanam of Villupuram district and madhurantakam of chengalpattu district. Many of the villagers who drank it fell ill. All of them were taken to the hospital. Officials revealed that 13 people died while undergoing treatment. It is said that the health condition of 30 others is now stable.
The government suspended three inspectors and four sub-inspectors from two districts for neglecting their duties. The police said that they have identified 9 people who manufactured and supplied adulterated liquor and gutka and registered 57 cases. They said many accused are absconding. In both incidents, the police suspect that the substance Ethanol Methanol, which is used for industrial purposes, may have been mixed with the medicine.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin said that Rs. 10 lakh compensation will be given to the families of those who died in the adulterated liquor incident. It has been decided to give Rs. 50 thousand as compensation to those undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Stalin expressed his grief that deaths due to drinking adulterated liquor are painful. He expressed his anger at the negligent officials. Officials were ordered to take strict action against those responsible. (Hydnow)
