Hyderabad, Oct.13 (Hydnow): Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar has directed the officials to take initiative steps for Oil Palm cultivation which targeted in 5 lakh acres across the state for the Year 2022-23, at a review meeting with officials of Horticulture and Industries Departments held at BRKR Bhavan today.
The Chief Secretary has informed that the Cabinet has approved an action plan to take up 20 lakh acres Oil Palm Cultivation in Telangana to evolve the farmers get better income. It is well known fact that Oil Palm gives 4 to 5 times more income compared to paddy.
The requirement of water is also less. The Study conducted by the Govt. of India is shown that most areas of Telangana are suitable for Oil Palm Cultivation.
As per the directions of the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Chief Secretary has reviewed and monitored the progress of Oil Palm Cultivation in Telangana.
During the meeting the Officials informed to Chief Secretary, so far 18 nurseries were set up and 23.41 lakhs of oil palm sprouts are received.
These sprouts are sufficient to oil palm cultivation in 36,000 acres. Indent has been placed by various companies for 2.11 crores of oil palm sprouts.
The farmers have shown keen interest in Oil Palm cultivation in the state.
As per the request of Govt. of Telangana, The Govt. of India has reduced the import of custom duty on oil palm seeds from 30% to 5 % which will help to the farmers.
Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, ITE&C, Raghunandan Rao, Secretary, Agriculture, Venkat Rami Reddy, Director, Horticulture, Surender, MD, TS Oilfed and other officials were present. (Hydnow)
