Uprooted trees, broken tree branches on the road, overturned traffic booths, water-logged streets and in some places, traffic snarls. The trail of damage that the sudden rains and strong winds on Saturday left was quite long.
The heavy rains also disrupted power supply and flooded streets in several areas. Trees were uprooted near Vengal Rao Park, KBR Park, Ramgopalpet, and NTR Trust Bhavan among others, and affected traffic flow in many areas.
Motorists had to drive through ankle-deep water at Punjagutta and other major junctions in the city. Residents in many colonies like Natraj Nagar, Rajeev Nagar and other areas too had to struggle through water-logged roads. The GHMC’s DRF teams have been deployed across the city to clear water logging and remove fallen trees and branches to restore smooth flow of traffic.
As for the rainfall, according to the Telangana State Development Planning Society’s Automatic Weather Stations in the GHMC limits, Shaikpet recorded the maximum rainfall till 3.30 pm, at 55.3 mm, followed by Ameerpet with 54.3mm. Khairatabad with 41.8 mm, Balanagar with 41.3mm, Kukatpally with 27.3 mm also recorded decent rainfall.
