Hyderabad: ‘Social Sciences must innovate in order to survive and the Refresher courses must offer a new and fresh perspective on the subject’, said Prof. Kancha Ilaiah, former Director, of the Center for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP), MANUU.
He was speaking today at the inaugural session of the Refresher course in Political Science & Public Administration being organized by UGC-HRDC, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU).
‘We know more about Western philosophy than Indian philosophy. The social sciences have existed in the Left-Liberal framework of the postcolonial paradigm. Academicians trained in the West mostly applied Western tools of inquiry at the cost of Indian pedagogic tools, he added. ‘Indian social sciences system that depends on the West is not intimately aware of Indian pedagogic traditions’, he added further.
Earlier, Prof. Afroz Alam, Head, of the Department of Political Science said that social sciences must also prepare to meet the challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Prof. Kaneez Zehra, Head, of the Department of Public Administration said that governance and issues of governance are ever-evolving.
Prof. Saneem Fatima, Director, UGC-HRDC in her welcome address said that care and due diligence has been taken to design the course covering all aspects of the subjects.
