Visakhapatnam: A Vivek Shobha Yatra marked the celebrations of Swami Vivekananda birth anniversary by Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama in the city on Sunday.

Vice Admiral Satish Ghormade, Chief of Staff of Eastern Naval Command, flagged off the Yatra on the south side of Central Park with around 1,000 youth from various colleges and schools. They reached the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama on the beach road, covering about five kilometres distance.

Swami Atmavidananda Secretary Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama welcomed the gathering at the Ashrama premises.

Former Rector of Andhra University A Prasanna Kumar, who addressed the gathering, recalled that when Swami Vivekananda’s returned to India after his Chicago Speech, a journalist asked him what the difference between the Americans and Indians was. Vivekananda’s reply was that the Americans are collectively good and Indians are individually good.

Deputy Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust PL Harinath, in his address said Swami Vivekananda is a national hero. “India is the youngest nation in the world as per the average in India around 29 years of age of youngest generation Is available in india. But they should follow Vivekananda’s teachings and make India strong,” he said. Dr CV Narasimham, retired Principal of Ramnath Secondary School , NSTL, felt youth finding excuses are not the solution for failures but should have confidence and determination to achieve the success.
