“People of Hyderabad, especially businessmen, are living in fear. There is no sense of security among citizens as criminals are brutally killing their targets on the streets of Hyderabad in broad daylight without any fear of law or the police,” Sameer Waliullah said in a media statement on Thursday.
Referring to the murder of a businessman in Banglaguda on Wednesday, Sameer Waliullah said that the police failed to take action despite the victim officially lodging a complaint in the police station concerned expressing fear for his life. Although, as an eyewash, a sub-inspector has been suspended, the reality remains that the police failed to provide security to a citizen who expressed fear for his life well in advance.
Sameer Waliullah said that the negligent attitude of Hyderabad Police has encouraged ‘street murders’ wherein an average of at least one person was brutally murdered in full public view every week. “Lack of accountability, especially at the higher level, is responsible for the rising crime rate in the city. There is literally no check on the manufacturing, sale, supply and possession of lethal weapons. Such weapons are accessible to anyone who could pay a price and they are freely being used to commit an offense,” he said.
“Mahmood Ali is either inefficient or has no powers to handle the sensitive portfolio like Home Ministry. He is limited to attending weddings and inaugurations.
