Hyderabad, Aug 4 (Hydnow) The Excise Department has completed the exercise on the reservation system in the allotment of liquor shops in the state. As part of the new liquor policy 2023-25, 15 percent reservation has been allocated for Gowda caste, 10 percent for SC, and 5 percent for STs.
On Thursday, the district-wise selection process was carried out by the officials for the allotment of shops according to the respective reservations. Reserved shops were selected by draw method taking the excise district as a unit.
District-wise Collectors conducted the selection process in the presence of a committee consisting of the District Prohibition and Excise Officer, District Tribal Development Officer, District Backward Classes Welfare Officer, and District Scheduled Caste Development Officer. It was videoed. Shops already allotted to STs in Scheduled Areas are excluded from this process. Of the 2,620 liquor shops across the state. There are 95 of these only STs have to apply for these shops in the auction. The selection process was conducted on Thursday for the rest of the shops.
According to the new liquor policy notification, 393 were allotted to the Gowda community, 262 to SCs, and 131 to STs. Out of the 95 shops in the Scheduled Areas, 36 shops were selected through a lottery in a manner suitable for 5 percent reservation for STs. Of the total 2,620 shops, 786 were allocated to three social groups, and the remaining 1,934 shops were declared as open categories.
Almost half of the 95 liquor shops already reserved for STs in Scheduled Areas are in the Kothagudem district alone. In that district 44 shops have been allotted to STs, 11 each in Bhupalapalli and Mahabubabad, 9 each in Adilabad, 6 each in Manchiryala and Khammam, and 4 each in Asifabad and Nagarkurnool districts.
Selection Process
First, district-wise gazette serial numbers were announced for all the shops. Each number is assigned a separate token. among them, the token of shops allotted to STs has been removed
All remaining tokens are placed in an empty box. first, one token is drawn and allotted to STs. The second token was allotted to the SCs and the third token to the Gowda castes. This was done till the allotment of reserve stores was completed.
If the allotment of shops to one community is completed, only the remaining two communities are selected. Then the shops for the third social group were decided by drawing. After completing the selection of shops for 3 communities, the rest were left under the open category. (Hydnow)
