Reopen CCI unit in Adilabad, KTR urges Centre

Hyderabad: Industries Minister KTR has urged the Centre to reopen the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) unit in Adilabad. All the requisite facilities are in place for reopening the CCI unit, he said.

The plant is located in an area spread over 772 acres on the outskirts of Adilabad town . It and has a township of 170 acres and 48 million tonnes limestone deposits were spread over 1500 acres, the Minister said.

Apart from a 2 KVA power plant, there was provision for supply of sufficient water to the unit, he pointed out.

Geographically, the unit is located in a strategic location in Adilabad. Considering the geographical advantages of Adilabad, if the CCI unit is reopened, it would serve multiple benefits, especially ensuring cement supply to Telangana, Maharashtra and neighbouring States, the Minister explained.

Since Adilabad was a backward district, reopening the CCI unit would aid in development of the district. It would also provide employment to local youth, especially Tribals and STs, who area majority of the population in the area, he said.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s vision to provide employment to youth by introducing TS-IPASS was yielding good results as many investments were being attracted into Telangana, the Minister said.

The relentless efforts put in Telangana Government has yielded in drawing investments to Adilabad as well. Orient Cement has invested over Rs.1500 crore to double the capacity of its plant at Devapur, the Minister reminded the Centre.

The construction sector in Telangana was progressing on a fast pace and with expectations vast growth of the sector in future by industry experts, there will be good demand for cement in the region, he said, adding that on the National level too, the demand for cement would also increase considerably.

In October 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Gati Shakthi Master Plan to execute works for development and strengthening of the national Highways network in the country. In addition to these, housing for poor, provision of basic amenities, rapid construction activities in rural areas along with urban areas, there will be heavy deman for cement in the days to come as per the expectations of ICRA, CRISIL and cement manufacturers, the Minister said.

At present, India is ranked second in cement production and if more cement manufacturing unit are set up, then the country would emerge as leading producer of cement. It can export cement to Middle East and African countries.

Despite all these advantages and requirements, Central Government was sitting on the requests to reopen the CCI unit at Adilabad since long, he informed.

“If the Central Government was prepared to reopen the CCI unit at Adilabad, Telangana government would offer all benefits being extended to new units,” said Rama Rao.

The State Government was relentlessly trying to get the CCI unit reopened. The issue has been brought to the notice of Union Minister’s Ananth Geethe and Mahendra Nath Pandey several times, he reminded.

Despite repeated pleas to take a positive decision regarding reopening of CCI unit, there was no response so far, he said.

At a time, when the private sector was expanding its operations on fast pace and Telangana Government extending all support, Central Government’s steps not to reopen the CCI unit at Adilabad, would amount injustice to Telangana youth, especially those in the backward district of Adilabad, he said.
