Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy said State government initiated several measures to help weavers and handloom sector in view of lockdown, and urged people to purchase handloom products to help the weavers in the pandemic time.

Jagadish Reddy, accompanied by elected representatives from erstwhile Nalgonda district, visited Bhudhan Pochampally to shop handloom products to set an example for others. He said Minister for IT and Municipal Administration K T Rama Rao had already announced measures to extend a helping hand to weavers during the lockdown. The relaxation given to withdraw thrift fund in advance would benefit a total of 26,500 weavers in the State to the tune of Rs 90 crores, he said

Stating that weavers of Telangana have great skill in weaving international standard handloom designs, he said weavers and handloom sector in the State faced worse times in united Andhra Pradesh due to the attitude of Andhra rulers. Moved by the suicide of seven weavers then, as leader of Telangana movement K Chandrashekhar Rao went begging for donations and collected Rs 4 lakhs, which was sent to the families of deceased weavers in Pochampally during Telangana agitation, the Minister recalled.

“The measures initiated by Chandrashekhar Rao as Chief Minister after 2014 restored the earlier glory to weavers and the handloom sector in Telangana State,” he said, adding that marketing facilities were set created for handloom products at international level. Rama Rao succeeded in creating a brand image for the handloom products of Telangana weavers with some serious promotional programmes, he pointed out.

Elected representatives went to Pochampally for shopping to instill confidence in weaversReminding that lockdown has shown impact on the marketing of handloom products of the weavers, he exuded confidence that the steps taken up by the state government would solve the problem soon.

He and several elected representatives were visited Pochampally and purchased handloom products to instill confidence in the weavers. He exuded confidence that other elected representatives would also follow them to create market to the weavers in the present situation.

Rajya Sabha member Badugula Lingaiah Yadav, MLC Karne Prabhakar, Zilla Parishad Chairman of Yadadri-Bhongir district Alimineti Sandeep Reddy, Zilla Parishad Chairperson of Suryapet Gujja Deepika, MLAs Pylla Shaker Reddy, Gadari Kishore, Kancharla Bhupal Reddy, N Bhaskar Rao, Nomula Narsimhaiah and Shanampudi Saidi Reddy were among those who purchased handloom products at Pochampally along with the minister.
