Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress national secretary, was detained while on her way to speak with farmers in Uttar Pradesh’s violent Lakhimpur Kheri area.
A complaint has been filed against Priyanka Gandhi for attempting to go to Lakhimpur Kheri, where Section 144 prohibitory orders are in effect.
The tragedy occurred while she was on her way to see the relatives of farmers slain in the Lakhimpur Kheri riots. After uploading footage of the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri on her phone, Priyanka Gandhi urged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit the area.
Chattishgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was also stopped by UP Police at the Lucknow airport on his way to see the victims’ families in Lakhimpur Kheri.
