Hyderabad, Oct.3 (Hydnow): Health Minister T Harish Rao has informed that a total of 2,200 additional MBBS seats will be added to Telangana by launching eight new colleges this academic year.
Speaking to the media here on Monday, Minister Harish Rao said there were only three medical colleges in Telangana till the year 2014. However, after the formation of Telangana State, the number of colleges has gone up to 17, and very soon, it will be having 33 in each district of Telangana, he said.
The State government has recently issued the GO amending rules of admission into MBBS and BDS courses under the B-category seats. With this, 85 percent of B-Category MBBS and Dental seats in minority and non-minority private medical and dental colleges will now be available to students from Telangana, he said.
“We will start admissions in 8 new medical colleges from this year, which will add 1200 seats. Combined with the 1067 additional MBBS seats through 85 percent reservation in B category medical seats in private medical colleges, over 2,200 medical seats will be available from this year.
This is a Dasara gift from Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao to MBBS aspirants in Telangana,” Harish Rao said. (Hydnow)
