Hyderabad, June 22 (Hydnow): The University College of Education, Osmania University has conducted a Seminar on “Restoration of heritage step-wells” in the University.
The Vice Chancellor of Osmania University Prof d. Ravinder lauded the efforts of Ms. Kalpana Ramesh and her members for their initiation. He recalled the visionary efforts of Maha Laqa bai in establishing step-wells to meet the needs of the citizens then. He thanked the Government, NGOs, and authorities of the University College of Education for their support for the restoration work.
Kalapana Ramesh made a presentation and kept the audience in rapt attention, narrating her journey from sustainable homes to the Restoration of the stepwell at Bansilalpet. She reminds us that a typical urban dweller doesn’t ever think about the source of water and is aware of just the tanker and tap. She conveyed the need for rainwater harvesting, safeguarding our lakes, ponds, and restoration of step-wells.
Her attitude of not giving up against all odds led to her team members and Government support to witness the Bansilalpet step-well. She was optimistic that the two step-wells they have taken up at Osmania University will be operational by next year and profusely thanked the administration at OU for their support for taking up sustainability practices.
OU Registrar Prof P.Lasminarayana, Prof.Rabindranath Murthy, Principal, University College of Education, Prof T. Mrunalini, Dr. P. Shankar, Faculty members, and students attended in large numbers. (Hydnow)
