Hyderabad, Oct.7 (Hydnow): TRS party president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday announced that former MLA Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy would be the party candidate for Munugodu by-elections.
The Chief Minister has taken this decision after taking into consideration of survey reports and opinions of local leaders, activists, district party leadership and people of the constituency.
Prabhakar Reddy has been TRS activist since the party’s inception and worked actively during the agitation for the separate Telangana State.
In 2014, he was elected as an MLA from Munugodu with a huge margin of 38,055 votes. In the previous Telangana Assembly elections held in 2018, he again contested from Munugodu, but couldn’t retain the seat. He was defeated by Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy with a huge margin of 22,552 votes.
While Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy is contesting on behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress has fielded a woman, Palvai Sravanthi as party candidate. She is a daughter of Palvai Govardhan Reddy, a five- term MLA from Munugodu Assembly constituency.
The CPI and CPM had already announced their support to the ruling TRS party.
Meanwhile, the nomination process for bypoll began on Friday. The last date for filing nomination is October 14 and the withdrawal is on October 17. The by-poll will be held on November 3. (Hydnow)
