Hyderabad: A rehearsal of Muharram procession was held in the old city on Saturday.
The HEH Nizam Trust and the local Shia organizations had arranged ‘Madhuri’, a 38 year-old elephant from Kolhapur for carrying the Bibi ka Alam standard during the main procession on Friday. The elephant had reached the city on Friday night and was taken to the Dabeerpura area. It is kept at the Khilwat ashoorkhana.
The elephant procession passed through Dabeerpura, Yakutpura Road, Charminar, Gulzar Houz, Mandi Mir Alam before culminating at Darulshifa Chaderghat. The elephant is given a familiarization trip every year to make it comfortable for the main procession that is held on the 10 of the Islamic month of Muharram.
The local police officials including Additional SP Mirchowk, B Anand and other policemen provided fruit and jaggery to the elephant. During the rehearsal AIMIM MLA Riyaz ul Hassan Effandi and other Shia leaders were present.
