Hyderabad: As part of World Environment Day, Hon’ble Industries Minister Shri KT Rama Rao launched the ‘Rethink – Reduce, Reuse & Recycle Knowledge Hub‘ at the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) campus.
Rethink is a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country that connects RRR centers inwards and cities to potential clients from Startups, NGOs, CBOs, MSMEs, innovators, and corporates who are working in the space of resource management.
Rethink aims to accelerate circularity in waste management and prevent plastics and waste from going to landfills and water bodies.
Speaking at the event, the minister declared that every Saturday would be designated as ‘Rethink Day,’ dedicated solely to RRR activities.
“So far we have set up a total of 1962 RRR centers (Reduces Reuse Recycle) in 142 ULBs to collect used products such as used plastic items, old books, clothes & footwear, etc. Over 200 MT of used items is already collected in these RRR Centres from 20th May till date. These products will be refurbished, reused, or remade into new products.”
As a waste exchange platform, Rethink monitors and captures real-time data from the RRR centers. It bridges the supply-demand gap thereby ensuring someone’s trash is another’s treasure. Rethink is a circularity hub by promoting reuse and linking innovators to upcycle waste.
RRR mantra should be part of the lifestyle of every citizen and Telangana should be a model state for the rest of the country in this aspect as well. I thank ASCI for initiating this dialogue and this process, he said.
The minister also launched the Environmental Surveillance Laboratory (ESL) at ASCI. ESL meets the environmental monitoring needs of the government, private and non-governmental partners committed to ecological protection. ESL is committed to providing quality and cost-effective monitoring services to ensure safe water, environmental sanitation, and ecological sustainability.
Sri. K. Padmanabhaiah, IAS (Retd) Hon’ble Chairman, ASCI, Prof. V. Srinivas Chary, Center Director and CEO WASH Innovation Hub, ASCI, Dr. Satyanarayana, IAS, and others spoke.
