Khammam: S Harshavardhan Reddy (27), a youth hailing from Garikapadu village of Wyra mandal in the district, reportedly died following an illness at Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi in southeastern Africa.

According to family members, he went to Malawi in February last after completing graduation in Khammam and was working in a private company in Lilongwe. For the past few months, he was said to be falling sick often.

Harshavardhan Reddy informed his parents Ramana Reddy and Krishna Kumar about his health condition and tried to return to India. But, he couldn’t return home following the suspension of international flights in the wake of the spread of coronavirus pandemic across the world.

With the help of friends, he got admitted to a hospital at Area 6 in Lilongwe and was undergoing treatment. The youth’s parents here met MP Nama Nageswar Rao and other TRS leaders and pleaded with him to facilitate his return to India at the earliest and they responded positively.

Meanwhile, his friends in Malawi succeeded in booking an airline ticket for Harshavardhan to India and the flight was scheduled for June 6. But Harshavardhan’s condition deteriorated and he died in the early hours of Wednesday as per Indian time.

A pall of gloom descended on Garikapadu after news of the youth’s death reached the family. The parents and family members of Harshavardhan Reddy appealed to the local leaders and officials to ensure that his body is brought back to India as soon as possible.
