Khammam: In a joint operation, Khammam Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) officials arrested a train robber and recovered gold and mobile phones worth Rs 6 lakhs from him. The accused Pallapu Gopi of Mahabubabad has been taken into custody while moving suspiciously at Khammam railway station.
RPF CI K Madhusudan and GRP CI Indrasena Reddy told media here on Saturday that a joint team of RPF and GRP arrested Gopi and interrogated him during which he confessed to his crimes of robbing passengers on board Ganga Kaveri Express on May 5 between Motamarri and Madhira railway stations in Khammam district. He forcefully took away two bags, containing four cell phones, one watch and six tolas of gold ornaments.
He further confessed that he was involved in a theft case and was sentenced to detention in a juvenile jail in Vijayawada, Krishna district of AP and went to jail for a few days in a case under the One Town police limits in Khammam. He also confessed to stealing eight cell phones on trains two months ago. The police have seized all the stolen items and produced Gopi in the robbery case before Kazipet Railway Court for judicial remand, the CIs informed.

The police have also arrested three friends of the accused who took the stolen property from him to dispose them off in the market. They were served notices under 41 Cr.PC. A suspect sheet was opened against the accused and he would be constantly monitored, they added.
