Hyderabad, Sept.15 (Hydnow): Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan said on Tuesday that innovations play a vital in nation’s development and engineers must inculcate the spirit of innovative mindset to serve as the problem-solver.

She said that in order to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for self-reliant India, innovations in engineering, especially those in reducing the imports and promoting the exports are very important.

The Governor was addressing the 53rd Engineers’ Day virtual celebrations organised by the Institution of Engineers of India, Telangana State Centre, here, coinciding with the 160 th birth anniversary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.

Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan stated that the field of engineering is fast changing and it was necessary for the engineers to get constantly updated with the changing times and trends.

“This is the era of engineers. Engineers are seen as innovators and problem-solvers. Their role assumed greater importance in the present COVID-19 pandemic time. I salute all the engineers for their role in nation building. I salute the legendary Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya for his great contribution to engineering and to the country,” said the Governor.

She said that the engineers have done tremendous contribution to the field of medicine by coming up with advanced diagnostic equipment. They also ensured the country’s self sufficiency in PPE kits and testing kits and their export.

“In order to realise the objectives of Make in India, Start up India, Self- Reliant India and to ensure our country’s self-sufficiency and to improve our exports, engineers and their innovations are real hope,” the Governor added.

As part of the celebrations, Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya Award-2020 was presented to NIT Director Prof. N V Ramana Rao and Missile Scientist J R Joshi. Engineer of the Year-2020 awards were presented to Prof. Gopal Naik, Dr. Kishore Nath and Mandava Mohan Rao, while Young Engineer of the Year-2020 awards were given to Dr. Alka Kumari and Dr. Pavan A Hanu Venkatesh.

Secretary to Government, Tourism, Culture and Sports, K S Srinivasa Raju, Institution of Engineers, Telangana Centre, Chairman Dr. G. Rameshwar Rao, Secretary T. Anjaiah, former chairman S Satyanarayana and a host of other engineers took part in the virtual celebrations. (Hydnow)
