Hyderabad, Nov.12 (Hydnow): Telangana High Court on Thursday directed the state government to immediately ban the sale and use of firecrackers by the people and Organizations across the state during the upcoming Diwali season.
The High Court also directed the state to forthwith clampdown and close the shops which are selling fireworks. The court also directed the state to make an appeal to the people through print and electronic media asking them to refrain from bursting firecrackers in order to prevent any further deterioration in air quality.
A division bench of the Court further directed the state to submit a report before it on the steps taken by it in implementing its directions before November 19 of this month. The HC told the state government that Rajasthan government had already banned the sale of the firecrackers. It also asked it to file cases against those who are selling the firecrackers. The court passed these order while dealing with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed seeking to impose ban on the sale and use of the firecrackers between November 10 and November 30 of this month.
The petition was filed by advocate Indra Prakash. In his petition he told the HC that the state was still registering Covid 19 cases and added that the bursting of the firecrackers would lead to lung infection and breathing problems. (Hydnow)
