Hyderabad, Oct.7 (Hydnow): Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy today informed the Council that the government was encouraging organic farming and roof crops in a big way.
To a query by TRS member and Lyricist Goreti Venkanna, the minister said that the government is supporting the farmers for organic farming.
The government supports organic farming for three years from 2017-18. It is being taken up in 29,200 acres as the Government identified 584 clusters in all districts for the purpose.
We allocated Rs 72 crore towards this program and spent Rs 25.98 crore so far in the state, Niranjan Reddy said.
The government is supporting organic farming in thousands of acres and directed the officials to take action, he said.
Niranjan Reddy said that 26000 roof gardens came up in the city of Hyderabad and 150 women he informed.
The minister further said that in Janagam district they cultivate organic vegetables in 200 acres and earn better income in the name of Sahaja.
I have 37 acres of certified roof garden, he said. Later the pro-tem chairman in the council, Bhupal Reddy asked the minister to create awareness among the members on the same. (Hydnow)
