Hyderabad: The Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge, a popular tourist attraction in Hyderabad, has regrettably become a hotspot for suicides. Despite round-the-clock police surveillance and CCTV coverage, up to 30 people have tragically ended their lives here since the bridge’s inception in 2020.
Tragically, a 17-year-old girl named Payal recently took her life by leaping from the cable bridge into the water below on Thursday afternoon. Her friend Bhagyashree, who witnessed the event, promptly reported the incident to the police. A search for Payal’s body in the Durgam pond was then carried out by the Madhapur police in cooperation with the NDRF team.
Payal was originally from Gulbarga, in the state of Karnataka, and worked as a domestic helper in a residence in Madhapur. According to sources, Payal was profoundly in love with a young man, a relationship not approved of by her family. Authorities speculate that this may have been the reason for her tragic decision.
