Hyderabad: Telangana’s Minister Jagadish Reddy questioned the criticism directed at the state government’s policy of providing 24-hour free electricity to the farmers. The minister took particular issue with opposition leader Revanth Reddy’s negative comments on the policy.
“Why does Revanth Reddy get upset when 24 hours of free electricity is provided to the farmers of Telangana?” Minister Jagadish Reddy asked during the press meeting held at the party office on Tuesday. “Does he or his party bear a grudge against the prosperity of our farmers?”
Minister Jagadish Reddy’s comments were in response to Revanth Reddy’s recent remarks made at a conference in the United States. He, however, accused the opposition, specifically the Congress party, of having a track record of undermining the agriculture sector in the country. “If the farmers prosper, the party wouldn’t survive,” he suggested, characterizing Revanth Reddy’s criticisms as indicative of Congress’s alleged anti-farmer stance.
The minister also called on the farmers to reconsider their support for the Congress party. “Farmers contemplating voting for the Congress party should think again,” he urged, adding a warning that Revanth Reddy’s comments were deceitful.
