Hyderabad, Feb 8 (Hydnow): The State government is working to supply free electricity under “Griha Jyothi” in the first phase to the houses with electricity connections linked with ration cards, Aadhaar and cell phone numbers.
These three will be taken as the basis for identifying the eligible families. Based on these, the electricity staff goes door to door and records the details.
Recently 81,54,158 people applied for free electricity in Praja Palana’ Of these, 90 percent did not properly register their ration card, Aadhaar, and cellphone numbers.
As part of the inspections, the electricity staff is re-entering these details. It has been found that 10 lakh applicants do not have original ration cards. It is informed that it is impossible to supply free electricity to such people in the first phase.
Greater Hyderabad has 49.50 lakh electricity connections. Of these, around 30 lakh connections are using less than 200 units of electricity per month. But only 19.85 lakh people applied for free electricity. Out of these 5 lakh applications have no details of ration cards.
About 10 lakh people did not apply. To check all this, the staff is going door to door and recording the details. After this process is completed across the state, the basic calculations of how many houses will be supplied with free electricity will be determined.
The government plans to apply the free electricity scheme to basic eligible households whose monthly average electricity consumption is upto 200 units in the last financial year (2022-23), Average figures for that year are collected online by discoms.
Houses that used upto 200 units last year will now be given upto 200 units free per month. Last year, if a household used an average of 90 units per month, then 9 units were added under the ten percent quota. Telangana government plans to implement the same here. If G.O. is released, there will be complete clarity on the guidelines. (Hydnow)
