Former Sirpur (T) MLA and veteran Telangana activist Kaveti Sammaiah passed away due to prolonged illness in Kaghaznagar town on Thursday. He was 68. The ex-MLA is survived by a wife and three sons. He suffered a significant dip in levels of sugar in his blood, resulting in death, according to his family members.
Sammaiah won twice from Sirpur (T) Assembly constituency by contesting on the ticket of Telangana Rashtra Samithi, in 2009 and 2010. He was defeated by Koneru Konappa in 2014 general elections. Since then, he was not active in politics. He shifted loyalties to the Congress party in 2018 and campaigned on behalf of the party’s candidate in 2019 elections to Telangana Legislative Assembly.
He always supported Telangana movement and resigned to the post of MLA demanding a separate state. He was a local cable TV operator and one of the partners of electronic showroom in Kaghaznagar before venturing into politics. His wife Saileela was chairperson of Kaghaznagar Municipality.
Minister for Forests, Environment, Endowments and Housing Allola Indrakaran Reddy expressed grief over the demise of Sammaiah and conveyed condolences to bereaved kin of the latter. He recalled that former legislator had actively participated in Telangana movement and raised voice in support of the cause.
The Congress party’s Sirpur (T) Assembly Constituency in-charge Dr P Harish Rao, former Kaghaznagar municipal chairperson B Vidyavathi and leaders of various political parties expressed grief over. Sammaiah’s followers and supporters made a beeline to take final glimpse of his body.
