Former MLA Krishna Reddy Passes Away

Hyderabad, Aug.18 (Hydnow): The former MLA of Nagarkurnool district Edma Krishna Reddy breathed his last today at a Corporate Hospital here. He was 84. He was keeping unwell for the past some time. He contested from the Kalwakurthy Assembly segment thrice and won twice.

He was born in a farmer’s family in Kalwakurthy in 1947. Being a farmer, he got into the active politics by becoming a ward member and later a village Sarpanch. Reddy went to jail during the emergency period in 1977. He won as the MPP of Kalwakurthy in the year 1986 on behalf of TDP.

He won as the MLA as an independent candidate from the Kalwakurthy Assembly segment and joined the Congress party in the year 1999. He won from the same seat as the congress party candidate in the year 2014. He lost the elections from the party in 2009. He lost in the 2014 Assembly Elections.

Later joined the ruling TRS party during the last Assembly Elections. His son Edma Satyam became Kalwakurthy Municipal Chairman. Krishna Reddy shot to fame as current kistanna as he held hunger strike demanding the state government to increase the capacity of the transformers and supply quality power in the year 2003.

The strike became a sensation in the entire state. The then CLP leader YS Rajasekhera reddy personally came to Kalwakurthy and offered Lemon juice to him to end his strike. The political leaders cutting across party affiliations expressed their condolences on the death of Reddy. Senior congress leader K. Jana Reddy Expressed his deep felt condolences on the death of the veteran politician. He said that Krishna Reddy had always worked for the welfare of the people of the state. (Hynow)
