Hyderabad, Dec. 18: For the first time in Hyderabad, electric auto rickshaws (e-autos) have been introduced at Kacheguda Railway Station on an experimental basis. After approval from the South Central Railway (SCR), two e-autos are pressed into service currently at the station.
According to the president of auto motors Venu Gopal Rao, the e-autos will be available for railway passengers for 24 hours.
Telangana government has been expediting the process to set up public EV charging stations across the city. Over 110 such stations are being set up as part of the FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) programme.
According to the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), there are nearly 12,000 electric vehicles in GHMC limits at present. Among them, 5,000 are battery-operated, 5,000 are hybrid diesel-electric, and 2,000 are hybrid petrol-electric vehicles.
