Telangana is one among the worst COVID-19 hit states in the country and is also one among the states with the highest number of active cases.
The state witnessed a tremendous increase in the COVID-19 positive cases for the last one month, especially in the Hyderabad. Relaxations in lockdown and an increase in the tests are said to be reasons for the increase in the cases.
With the 59.5 per cent active cases till June 27, Telangana topped in the rise of the active cases, followed by Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra at second and third place with 43.3 and 43.1 per cent active cases respectively. On June 30, the government tested 3,457 samples out of which 27.3 per cent turned positive which is highest in the country.
Telangana’s positivity rate is higher than Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. On June 20, the positivity rate was 17.12 per cent and it has been increased to 36.8 per cent on June 29. The state stands eighth in the list with a total of 17,357 confirmed cases that include 13,422 cases from Hyderabad.
On Wednesday, Congress Telangana’s working president Revanth Reddy wrote a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealing him to declare a health emergency in the state. He also asked the union ministry of health to take over healthcare.
