Hyderabad, August 14(Hydnow): Angered over delay in filling the potholes on city roads, the Congress party workers on Wednesday held a novel protest by filling potholes with pictures of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao and TRS Working President K. Tarakarama Rao.
The Congress workers, led by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Minorities Department Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, went to different areas and dumped the pictures of CM KCR and KTR. “The father-son duo is directly responsible for pathetic condition of roads in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. CM KCR has no time to visit any area of the city to check the bad condition of roads while his son KTR, who held the portfolio of Municipal Administration for five years till December 2018, is busy in political activities. CM is living a lavish lifestyle in his palace ‘Pragathi Bhavan‘ and KTR is available only on Twitter. Both have misled the people of Greater Hyderabad in last municipal elections and secured their votes for TRS. But they went missing after TRS gained control over GHMC,” Abdullah Sohail said while speaking to media persons.
Abdullah Sohail said that the condition of roads have turned from bad to worse and today they have turned into ‘killer roads’. He pointed out that 1,155 were killed and 8,783 in road accidents in the last three-and-a-half years ever since TRS won the GHMC elections. He said bad roads were the major cause of accident in majority of cases. Of 1258 accidents reported this year till June 30, as many as 446 cases pertained to 2-wheelers. Similarly, of 129 deaths in these accidents, 53 victims were pedestrians, 42 were 2-wheeler riders or pillion riders and 28 of them were due to Self Cause/Own, he said.

“GHMC cannot get away by blaming the recent rains for bad conditions of roads. GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore himself has admitted that there more than 4,000 potholes on city roads. But in reality, the number is much higher. When the GHMC authorities are able to count the number of potholes why is it not filling them up on immediate basis?” he asked.
The Congress leader alleged that the TRS Government has completely neglected the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. He said it was strange that the Chief Minister did not conduct a single review meeting on Hyderabad issues since he took charge for the second term in December 2018 despite the fact that he is holding the portfolio of Municipal Administration & Urban Development. He reminded that the Congress workers had held a similar protest of filling potholes with KTR’s picture on September 24, 2016. However, he said that the TRS Government has turned so insensitive that it never reacted to improve the situation. He alleged that the negligence of CM KCR, KTR and GHMC authorities was proving fatal for the road users, especially the bike riders and pedestrians.
Abdullah Sohail said that the Congress workers have dumped thousands of pictures of CM KCR and KTR in potholes to make people realise who is responsible for the bad roads on which they are forced to travel. He appealed to all road users to drive carefully as the ruling party and authorities appear firm on not improving the condition of roads. He also requested the police department to register cases under Section 304-A for Death Due to Negligence against GHMC officials in accident cases which occur due to bad roads.
