Hyderabad, July 27 (Hydnow): In a novel protest against the negligence of the Telangana government in preventing inundation of low-lying areas due to incessant rains, Khairtabad DCC President Dr. C Rohin Reddy on Thursday visited the affected areas by wearing a swimming tube around his neck.
Rohin Reddy visited the Himayath Nagar, Street No 14 locality, which has been under knee-deep water for a week. He interacted with the residents, who told him that they have been unable to come out of their homes or receive visitors due to the flooding. The rainwater has also entered many houses, and the electric poles are submerged, posing a serious threat of electrocution. Rohin Reddy said that no steps have been taken by the authorities to remove the water from the locality.
Rohin Reddy also visited several other affected localities in the Khairtabad constituency while wearing the swimming tube. He said that the situation in Hyderabad has become so bad that people need to carry a tube as a safety measure, as many areas are getting inundated after a few spells of rain. He demanded that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) take immediate steps to remove the water from the submerged areas using heavy motors.
Speaking to the media, Rohin Reddy said that several localities have been submerged due to the incessant rains in Hyderabad in the last few days. However, the GHMC authorities have failed to provide any relief to the residents. He said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao, local MP & Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, local BRS MLA Danam Nagender, and local BJP corporator have done nothing to help the residents. He said that the BRS and BJP leaders have been making big statements in the media, but they are not visiting any affected areas. He ridiculed the much-hyped Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) and asked Minister KTR to explain why a majority of localities and streets have faced waterlogging despite spending thousands of crores in the name of SNDP. He said that the Congress workers have been trying to extend all possible help to the affected people. However, he said that the GHMC authorities need to be more active to reach the affected population. (Hydnow)
