Hyderabad, June 27 (Hydnow): Taking serious note of 204 child marriages being solemnized in the Telangana State from March 24 to May 31. The Telangana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TSCPCR) today said that it will have serious implications on the lives of girl children.
In a statement here today TSCPCR Chairperson J. Srinivas Rao said, during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is reported to the Commission by Childline that from March 24 to May 31 a total number of (204) child marriages have been solemnized in the state of Telangana. The Commission takes it on a serious note, because the child marriages have a serious implication on the lives of the girl children. It’s our due responsibility to protect the girl children from child marriages, otherwise it would affect them in every walk of their life, especially the health and education.
In light of the above, the District Collectors and Magistrates of Telangana State were addressed and requested by the Commission to issue serious instructions to the CMPO’s and the concerned officers to take immediate necessary actions and also to undertake preventive measures to sensitize the general population on Prevention of Child Marriages Act,2006.
