Hyderabad, Sept.19 (Hydnow):The very popular Balapur Ganesh Laddu broke its own record this year and fetched Rs 18.90 lakh in an open auction held before the start of Ganesh immersion procession in city.
The laddu auction began with a bid of Rs 1,116. Thirty five devotees participated in the auction and Ramesh Yadav and Mari Shashank Reddy it reached a record amount of Rs 18.90 lakh.
There is a norm that the locals who bagged laddu in auction are required to pay the money next year while the non-locals need to pay on the spot.
This year, the laddu got Rs 1 lakh thirty thousand more than what it got in the year 2019. A devotee Kolanu Rami Reddy won the sacred laddu for Rs. 17.60 lakh in the bidding of the 2019.
Speaking on the occasion after bagging the laddu MLC Ramesh Yadav said he wanted to give the laddu to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Last year, the auction was put off due to the lockdown and a spurt in Covid-19 cases. The laddu was handed over to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Pragathi Bhavan by members of the Balapur Ganesh Utsav Samithi as a prasadan last year.
The auction event was attended by several politicians, including state Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and former MLA Teegala Krishna Reddy. For the first time, the auction witnessed the participation of bidders from both Telugu States.
After the auction, the Utsav committee members felicitated Ramesh Yadav and Marri Shashank Reddy and presented him a two kilogram silver plate along with the laddu to him. Police made elaborate bandobust arrangements for the peaceful conduct of the auction and Shoba yatra of the ganesh. (Hydnow)
