Hyderabad, Aug.8 (Hydnow): Veteran Congress leader Nandi Yellaiah dies of Covid 19 at city based NIMS hospital today. He was 78 year old. He was born in Hyderabad on July 1,1942.
Yellaiah was admitted at NIMS due illness on July 29 last month. He is an important leader of the Congress party.
He also worked as the Rajya Sabha member twice. He was elected to the sixth, seventh, ninth, tenth and the 11th lok Sabha from Siddipeta MP seat. He was again elected to the 16th lok Sabha from Nagarkurnool MP seat by defeating his rival from TRS party Manda Jagannatham.

The party AICC incharge RC Kuntia, TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikaramarka, former MP Ponnam Prabhakar. AICC secretary SA Sampath Kumar, MP K.Venkat Reddy former minister DK Samarasimha Reddy, former PCC president VH, former ministers, J.Geeta Reddy Marri Shashidhar Reddy and others expressed their condolences on the death of the bereaved leader. They also recalled their association with the veteran leader of the party. They said that Yellaiah had always stuck to the ideals of the party and worked accordingly. They also said that the discipline of Yellaiah was an inspiration to the leaders of today. They said that the death of Yellaiah was a great loss to the party. Yellaiah had won as the MP from the siddipet SC reserved seat in the year 1977. He contested in the by-elections after the seat was vacated by the then sitting MP G.Venkatawami , who became state civil supplies minister after resigning from his MP seat.
He also won the by-elections held in the year 1980 after the collapse of the Janata government. However he was defeated by TDP leader Dr. G.Vijaya Rama Rao in the Lok Sabha elections held in the year 1984. However, he took revenge from his rival Vijaya rama rao by defeating him in the 1989 elections from the same constituency. Yellaiah also won from the same seat for the fourth term in the by-elections held in the year 1991 after the collapse of united front government at the Center.
