An explosion at an optical-mechanical plant in Sergiev Posad, Moscow region, has left forty-three people injured, as reported by local authorities.

The blast, occurring around 10:40 a.m. local time on Wednesday, originated from a pyrotechnics warehouse rented by a private company on the plant’s premises, revealed Governor Andrei Vorobiev via a Telegram post.

Among those injured, five are in critical condition as per preliminary data from local authorities, who also suspect that five individuals might still be trapped under debris. The plant, along with a nearby kindergarten, has been evacuated, and damage has been reported to a sports complex and windows of neighboring residences, cited Xinhua news agency.

Media sources, referencing a State Duma deputy, speculated that the explosion might be linked to a “violation of technological processes.” In response, Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation into the incident.
