The 4 Day South and Central India’s biggest and India’s 3rd largest Plastics Expo, HIPLEX 2023 Kicked Off

Hyderabad, August 04: HIPLEX, international Plastic Expo 2023, South and Central India’s biggest Expo is being under in the city at Hitex for four days from 4th to 7th August 2023. This exhibition comes after 8 years in a new avatar as HIPLEX in the place of the previous version IPLEX.

It was formally inaugurated by Mr. E. Venkat Narsimha Reddy, IAS – VC & MD, TSIIC, Govt of Telangana along with other dignitaries.

The Chief Guest Mr E. Venkat Narsimha Reddy, said TS iPass is an act is a landmark decision of the Government of Telangana. It provides speedy processing for the issue of various licenses required for setting up industries. Under it, we have approved 24000 industry proposals in the past eight and half years.

The first plastic park is sold out. If you want the second one, TSIIC is ready to provide the land. Please come with your proposal. TAPMC can develop all issues related to allotment etc so as to enable them to accommodate MSMEs.

Mr. D Chandra Sekhar, Addl Development Commissioner said Hyderabad is a hub for the plastic industry. He said the MSE Ministry extended funding support to 60 MSMEs to participate in the expo.

Mr Prabh Das, MD & CEO, HMEL said plastics are not a problem, but their disposal is a problem and we must collectively do something to address this menace. The only way out is to recycle, and reuse.

Mr H.K. Srivastava, Executive Director (Marketing-Petrochemicals) GAIL said TAAPMA is the flag bearer of the Plastic industry in South India.

Today, India is the 3rd largest consumer of Plastics after the USA and China and is continuously growing at a CAGR of 6 to 7%.

Currently, India’s Polyolefin demand (PE/PP) is around 13 million MT and Southern India contributes nearly 1/5 (20%) of this demand. As far as GAIl is concerned Southern region contributes 18% to our total sales, he said.

GAIL entered the 25th year of the Petrochemicals business and our commitment to expansion continues with our upcoming PP Plant at Usar and Pats along with the acquisition of JBF Petrochemicals, now known as GaIal Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd.

Plastics is more of an opportunity than a challenge he said

Even though the population overgrows China, our per capita consumption of plastic is far lower than the Chinese. At 11 Kg we are way behind China’s per capita consumption of 46/Kg and the USA 170/ Kg and the world Average of 28 Kg/Person, said Anil Reddy Vennum.

He on behalf of AIPMA and TAAPMS urged the government to lower the GST, of 18% imposed on plastics. The GST Council should at least consider reducing GST imposed on plastics used in the food packaging industry as well as Plastic Waste Management Industry. This will support the plastic industry’s growth which is struck at 8% annual growth.

Today we are at a consumption level of 18 million tons from 9 million Tons about a decade ago, Mr Anil Reddy Vennam, National President, Indian Plastics Institute added.

The plastic industry alone cannot be blamed for the environmental crisis. We need effective waste management. Just 30% out of 3.5 million Tons of Plastic Generation in India is recycled. And incidentally, we are the 2nd largest country in the world after the USA.

He also gave a call to all associations participating in the HIPLEX to submit representations to Govt to increase the use of plastics in a critical growth sector

Spread over 20,000 sq. meters, 400 exhibitors worldwide are showcasing their products. Specialty Chemicals and Master Batches. These exhibitors comprised Process Machinery, Printing & Packaging, Raw Materials, Moulds & Die, Post Processing Equipment, Quality Testing Equipment, Finished Products, and R&D.

TAAPMA is provided free power connections to the industries that displayed live machinery.

It has an exclusive pavilion for recycling and startups working in this space.

The show is supported by the Telangana government. CIPET, Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), a Government of India establishment; All India Plastic Manufacturers Association (AIPMA); Organisation of Plastics Processors of India (OPP) that works for the healthy growth of the plastics processing Industry in India; Material Recycling Association of India, an apex organization representing rapidly growing recycling industry

The other supporting bodies include the Plastindia Foundation, the apex body of the major associations, organisations, and institutions connected with plastics, with common objectives to promote the development of the plastics industry; Indian Plastics Institution, a strong Professional Body of Industrialists, Plastic Technologists, Academicians, Economists and Students; Indian Plastics Federation, the torch-bearer of plastics industry and trade and Plastic Manufacturers Associations of Tamil Nadu, Gujarat

The four-day show is being organized by Telangana And Andhra Plastics Manufacturers Association (TAPMA) and is expected to the general business of INR 500 crore

Nearly 50,000 footfalls are expected.

The organizer TAAPMA is a 54 years old trade body. It was founded in 1969.

It has 12500 members of which 10,000 are from Telangana and 2500 from Andhra Pradesh. It has just bagged FTCCI’s Excellence Award in recognition of its contribution to the growth of the trade and industry.
