Hyderabad: Motorists in the Rachakonda Traffic Police limits appear to have gone a traffic rule violation spree last week, raking in fines worth a shocking Rs.1.8 crore in just seven days between August 7 and August 13.
According to the police, Rs.60 lakh of the fines was for just helmet rule violations. A special drive against drunk driving saw the Traffic Police booking 150 cases for drunk driving and producing 160 persons before court, with the courts imposing jail sentences and a fine of Rs.7.1 lakh.
The weeklong enforcement was done to check for those driving with no helmet, no seatbelt, no driving licence, jumping signals, rash driving, using cell phone and drunk driving.
The same period reported 55 road crashes, of which seven accidents were fatal and seven persons lost their lives. The number of those injured was 57.
