80,000 Vehicles Travelled On HYD-Vijayawada Highway In The Last 2 Days

Hyderabad, jan 14 (Hydnow): city dwellers flocked to the countryside to celebrate the Sankranti festival in their hometowns.  As a result, a record number of vehicles traveled on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway on Friday and Saturday.

Due to this, the traffic got worse and the drivers and passengers faced difficulties.  From Dilsukhnagar in Hyderabad to Choutuppal (45 kms) it takes an hour to travel by car on normal days, but it took four hours on Saturday. The six-lane road widening works from LB Nagar to  Dandu Malkapur on this route has had an impact.  The lack of coordination between the police and GMAR toll road officials has also attracted criticism.

Due to heavy traffic at Choutuppal towards Vijayawada the police allowed vehicles going to Vijayawada in a row even on the way to Hyderabad.  But at one stage, all the three rows on the sy towards Hyderabad were filled with vehicles going to Vijayawada.  Due to this, vehicles stopped and moved forward for three kilometers in Choutuppal Municipal area till Saturday evening. The police worked hard to sort out the vehicles.

On Friday, 68,628 vehicles traveled on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway through Pantangi toll plaza of Choutuppal mandal.  Of these, there are 54,595 cars.  This is the first time that travelers are going to the Sankranti festival at this scale.  The vehicular traffic became more heavy on Saturday.  Officials estimate that around 80,000 will have gone on this one day. While there are 16 toll booths at Pantangi toll plaza, 10 have been opened on the Vijayawada route.  Fast Tag scanning usually takes 5 seconds.  After reaching Toll Plaza in the current rush.  It took 5 to 10 minutes to cross the scanning.  (Hydnow)
